[Since the name of this proposed group has changed, I thought I'd re-post the call for discussion. Note that the discussion is aleady in progress and the vote will be in about 2 weeks.] Purpose: to discuss issues of interest to short wave listeners, i.e. those who are interested in listening to programs on the shortwave bands (primarily but exclusively broadcast bands); also to discuss issues of interest to dx'ers working other broadcast bands (vhf, mw, tv). Topics might include (but would not be limited to): announcements of shortwave programs of interest shortwave program schedule listings shortwave program time & frequency changes relevant magazine & journal recommendations receiver and antenna reviews and recommendations dx'ing tips & news news of pirate and clandestine stations politics of international broadcasting The name "rec.radio.shortwave" was chosen to (a) introduce a new hierarchy "rec.radio" and (b) avoid puzzling acronyms like "swl" (although the latter is in common use within the community itself). At the start, articles on other kinds of broadcast-band dx'ing would be welcome on this group as well, although it is understood in advance that these topics may later be split off into groups of their own (probably under the new rec.radio hierarchy).
