[news.groups] CALL FOR VOTES: Rec.Radio.Shortwave

rshapiro@BBN.COM (Richard Shapiro) (10/09/89)

This is a formal call for votes for the proposed group
REC.RADIO.SHORTWAVE (originally rec.swl).

Purpose: to discuss all issues of interest to short wave listeners,
i.e. those who are interested in listening to programs on the
shortwave broadcast bands. Topics will include, but not be limited to,
program schedules, program recommendations, receiver reviews, dx news,
the politics of international broadcasting, information about
periodicals of interest, tips for improved reception, pirate and
clandestine station information, etc.

This group will also welcome articles on dx'ing other broadcast bands
(lw, mw, vhf-fm & tv), and on shortwave listening of non-broadcast
stations.

It is expected that this newsgroup will be gateway'd to the swl-l
mailing list (though a few details remain to be worked out).

Voting procedure:

Send all votes to RSHAPIRO@BBN.COM (if you use 'r', please verify the
address). Include the words "rec.radio.shortwave: yes" or
rec.radio.shortwave: no" in the subject field. Voting begins
10-October and runs through 10-November. I do not plan to acknowledge
each vote, but I will post a list in about two weeks (addresses only).
A second call for votes will go out at about the same time. As soon
as possible after the closing date, I will post the final results of
the vote. Following current usenet practice, the proposal requires 100
more 'yes' votes than 'no' votes in order to pass.

PLEASE DO NOT POST VOTES. Be careful about this -- not only will your
vote not count, but it will generate angry hate-mail from readers who
are sick of seeing these things. Even if your email'd vote bounces, DO
NOT POST.

Any votes which were sent to me during the discussion period do not
count -- please re-submit them within the designated 30-day period.
