[news.groups] Baybone Poll Results on sci.aquaria

csg@pyramid.pyramid.com (Carl S. Gutekunst) (11/21/89)

To settle the issue of propogation of sci.aquaria, I sent the following query
to the 20 "BayBone" sites that are the primary carriers of Usenet news in the
San Francisco Bay Area and Northern California.

A simple question, for all BayBone admins:

Will your site carry sci.aquaria, yes or no?

Sites Queried: 20
Sites Responding:	18

YES: 16 (13 unqualified, 3 with various reservations)
NO: 1
Undecided: 1

The "We'll carry it, with reservations," votes ran from "First thing to go
when we run out of disk space," to "We don't like it, but we'll go along with
the net." The one undecided vote planned to go with the results of this poll.
A few of the yes votes expressed irritation at the politics of the voting
process. More than half, however, had no comments at all.

It is interesting to contrast this with my more elaborate Baybone poll on
comp.women. At the time, the vote had just passed. In 16 out of 20 responses,
8 prefered the name comp.soc.women, 4 wanted it anywhere but comp, and 4
didn't care. All 16 said they would carry the group, however, wherever Spaf
newgroup'd it. Virtually all of the votes came attached with lengthy comments.
