I support the creation of a sci.virtual-worlds newsgroup. I've been doing research in this area for the past year, and the description of this newsgroup sounds like something that would be very helpful to progress in this field. No name is going to be perfect for all people. I happen to call my work "Presence" (I think we got this from McGreevy) or "Multi-Sensory I/O", but I found "Virtual Worlds" very recognizable - the proposed description of the newsgroup followed what I expected from the title.
