[news.groups] Where's alt.rock-n-roll.metal?

mojo@reed.UUCP (a black-and-white 1964 Fender Mustang) (01/13/90)

As of sometime today, reed claims that alt.rock-n-roll.metal does not exist.
Did somebody delete it in the course of the recent flamefest, or is this a
local problem (or is something completely else going on with it)?

Someone sent out an rmgroup for it yesterday and reed honoured it.
Someone who? I don't know for certain, but I have a couple of
guesses. The person hid behind some header mucking.

"It's dead Jim."

At least I saw what appeared to be a forged control message (rmgroup)
for it. Fortunately, unix.cis.pitt.edu doesn't automatically honor such
messages, so we still have the group. No doubt that it's "connectivity"
has been damaged, though.

I don't know about you, but as I logged on to rn just now, the program
told me that a.r.m was not part of my .newsrc and asked to add it, so
its there somewhere.

"Some header mucking" is a mild way of putting it. I have long since modified
C news's newgroup and rmgroup control scripts to bounce alt messages to my
mailbox without processing them; needless to say, *that* one ended up in
/dev/null. (Let it be noted that I don't particularly like heavy metal and
ignore the newsgroup; I do *not* ignore control messages with obvious signs of
having been sent by immature individuals.)
