[net.unix-wizards] Reading other terminal environments

Is it possible to determine the value of environment variables on
another users terminal?  I'm looking at storing some security information
in .profile (Sys III) and want to prevent other people from getting at it.
From reading the manual, I get the feeling that an "environment" is private
to a process.  Am I off track?

I haven't really considered encryption.  Is it a viable option?
