[news.groups] crossposting wars

xanthian@saturn.ADS.COM (Metafont Consultant Account) (02/15/90)

Dean,

Carrying a newsgroup is a subscriber's choice. If I choose not to
carry a newsgroup, it is because 1) I can't afford the costs (disk
space, phone charges, download time), or 2) I have no interest in the
subject matter.

When you crosspost simply to bypass my subscription choice, you are
saying to me that I am a fool who should not be allowed to choose
whether to read your posting, so you are going to force it onto my
system anyway.

Please forgive me if I get a bit irate as a result. [No, I'm not a
sysop any more; I'm speaking in the "generic 'me'". ;-) ]

Again, my opinions, not the account furnishers'.
