To the second part first: because it's more a hobby than a science. *However*, to the first part: the nail has been hit upon the head. A fair, logical solution *can* be reached: -1- Fully propagate rec.aquaria, so aquaria owners can get answers to the day-in, day-out questions they have. -2- Rename sci.aquaria sci.icthyology, and open it to *all* matters fish-related (pescine?). I'm sure there are non-aquariumists who could benefit from, and benefit others on, such a group. After all, there are more fish outside of aquaria than within, and plenty of people studying them in their natural habitats. -3- Create rec.fishing, if one doesn't exist, to make sure postings related to fishing don't get sent to sci.icthyology. -4- Live happily ever after.
