Alt.sex.pictures has been around for a while now, and generally successful. However, it has three major flaws, in my opinion. 1) It is limited only to pictures having to do with sex. 2) It has low propagation. 3) There are no standards for posting and it is sometimes confusing. (#1 is probably one of the causes of #2) So, I propose a new group, for the posting of pictures. It is for any pictures, they don't have to have anything to do with sex. And they can be of any format. I'm not sure of the specifics, but here are some ideas: Possibly, we could have two separate groups. One for the posting of pictures, and the other for discussion. Then again, maybe the discussion would be handled by one of the newsgroups that already exist, or maybe the existing groups would only be for general graphics discussion and the new discussion group would deal with discussion about specific pictures posted in the pictures group. If there is a separate picture-only group, it could be moderated. The moderator could enforce some sensible rules, such as: The subject line begins by naming the format of the picture (GIF, Mac, CGM, etc.); The subject line gives an idea of what the picture is of; The poster should give pertinent data such as # of colors and resolution; etc. The moderator could also weed out copyrighted pictures. Who would be the moderator? Some possible names: rec.arts.pictures comp.graphics.pictures rec.graphics.pics & rec.graphics.d With 16 hours/week of radio air time, plus two consulting jobs, and a social life, I probably don't have time to be vote-taker or moderator. And besides, I'd hate to strain chaos's poor 56K link. Maybe someone will volunteer if there is interest? Well, that's a start. Let the discussion begin, and let it take place in news.groups (and let millions of flames and puns come forth! :-) -- Cos (Ofer Inbar) -- cos@chaos.cs.brandeis.edu -- WBRS (100.1 FM) -- WBRS@binah.cc.brandeis.edu WBRS@brandeis.bitnet "Good literature is about Love and War."
