This is the second call for votes for comp.text.sgml, and an acknowlegement of those who have voted so far. Sentiment has been generally positive. comp.text.sgml will discuss the ISO 8879 'Standard Generalized Markup Language', systems which use it, markup languages, and structured documents in general. Substantive discussions about SGML and related issues are going on in 'comp.text' right now, as well as in several of the groups which this posting has gone to. 15 postings in the last two weeks by my count, not a huge amount, but substantial; I would hazard a guess that there's not more because people are also wading through discussions of doing backslashes in troff. I expect that comp.text.sgml will cover the following interests and the work of the following groups: - the Text Encoding Initiative - the Graphics Communications Association SGML activities - the Integrated Chameleon Architecture (from Ohio State) - the HyTime and Standard Music Description Language ANSI committees; - the SGML User's Group plus the variety of commercial, academic, and industrial efforts which are using, considering, or perhaps struggling with structured text and markup languages. There's a smallish archive of sgml materials at ftp.math.lsa.umich.edu in the directory /pub/sgml if you want to look at what I've collected so far, the initial call for votes, & some other stuff. Voting is due to end at or near the end of this month; the news.announce.newgroups posting says the 25th, but my initial posting said the 31st.
