[news.groups] comp.dcom.fax's Call For Votes

evan@telly.on.ca (Evan Leibovitch) (11/09/90)

A number of people have replied to this call for votes, suggesting that
the vote isn't following the guidelines because it hasn't been posted in
news.announce.newgroups.

In fact, it has been, but the moderator refuses to post it, telling me
in private mail that he thought there was too much of a gap between the
discussion and the vote. And while I can see that as possibly being
someone's reason for voting NO, I can't see why that should prevent the
call itself from being posted.

I don't have any control over what goes in news.announce.newgroups, so
please understand that I haven't tried to defraud anyone by keeping it
out of there.

It was my impression that the reason n.a.n was moderated was to keep
out the noise, rather than to make decisions about whether a particular
vote/discussion/etc is appropriate. Since I have no idea of what other
"inappropriate" postings have been rejected, I must conclude that n.a.n
cannot be considered suitable as a new admin's *only* source of
information about new groups which are being considered.

Further, the refusal of the n.a.n moderator to post a call for discussion
or votes should not *in itself* be a guidelines violation. Doing this
essentially gives the moderator of n.a.n a one-person veto of the entire
process.
