[news.groups] ***CALL FOR VOTES*** rec.arts.bodyart

cwayne@hydra.unm.edu (Chris Wayne) (01/17/91)

This is a little late in coming, but I don't think it violates any
guidelines? My machine has been in yoyo mode lately and I've been busy
trying to figure out what to say. With some of the reaction to my CFD,
some netters didn't think it belonged in 'their' group, I happen to
disagree, however, it really doesn't matter. I was also planning on
listing all the groups I had originally posted to and explain why it
is appropriate to be in each group, but this would have been a long
article and still wouldn't matter. The formation of this group is for
you the netter and you don't need me telling you why or why not that this
group should exist. All I will say is that *everyone* that reads this
has or knows someone that has a tattoo, peircing or brand. It is a part
of our society and many don't like it, many do. There are many people who
frequent the groups I had selected that take an interest in 'primitives'.
It was not to long ago that I saw an article about a computer being used to
do tattooing. I know the interest is out there, but will there be enough
support?

The group is called rec.arts.bodyart. It is for the discussion,
support, and sharing of ideas on the 'primitives'. 'Primitives' are
techniques at modifing the body as in tattooing, peircing, branding,
cutting, etc. It is not intended to include cosmetic changes, i.e.
lipstick and eye shadow.

The other guideline to this group is that 'bashing' one side or the
other be kept down to a minimum, none would be best. Bashing may cause
many that are interested in this subject to vote no or even not to vote
at all. Please, do not let fear control your vote! As for the inmature
that insist on bashing, well, there are ways to deal with them. At the
same time, if there is someone that has a major gripe about primitives
and can present their argument in an object manner, that would be great too!
The idea that I'm trying get across is, let's not be childish. This is a fun
topic to get involved in, even if you are not into primitives yourself.

I will be collecting the votes and will post acknoledgements out daily
to news.groups only (saves bandwith). The voting period will be 21 days.
The vote will begin on 0000 17 Jan, 1991 and will end on 2400 6 Feb, 1991.
When you vote, the subject header should have something like "bodyart VOTE",
then all I need is a YES or NO in the message. If you want to discuss something
with me, please Email separately. If these rules are note followed, I may miss
your vote. My address is cwayne@hydra.unm.edu. As always if you know of a
newsgroup or mailling list that this CFV did not make it to, please pass it on.

Thanks,
Chris Wayne

This is the last call for votes. The group is unmoderated. There is
still some ambiguity as to the exact definition of this group, but in
general it is for the discussion, support and sharing of ideas concerning
tattooing, peircing, branding, etc. (or what is sometimes call modern
primitives). This type of body modification is different than cosmetic
changes (i.e. makeup or plastic surgery). One of the more interesting things
about this subject is that the majority of people are either interested in it
or against it, Whatever the reason, it is something that is very primordial
and therefore, something that is very very deep within us all. And that would
seem to hint at a need for such a group.

I will be collecting the votes and will post acknoledgements out at least
weekly to news.groups only (saves bandwith). The voting period will be 21
days. The vote will begin on 0000 MST 17 Jan, 1991 and will end on 2400 MST
6 Feb, 1991. When you vote, the subject header should have something like
"bodyart VOTE", then all I need is a YES or NO in the message. If you want to
discuss something with me, please Email separately. If these rules are not
followed, I may miss your vote. My address is cwayne@hydra.unm.edu or
cwayne@triton.unm.edu. As always if you know of a newsgroup or mailling list
that this CFV did not make it to, please pass it on.
