The rec.sport.basketball reorganization is creaking a little at the seams. Unfortunately, aliasing by sites which rewrite Newsgroups: lines for aliased groups is causing the rec.sport.basketball.misc group to be innundated with articles from the original rec.sport.basketball. Of course, this was what was expect to happen (fancy that!). The problem is that the vast majority of these articles are on the topic of professional basketball, and attempts to redirect those posters to the rec.sport.basketball.pro group have proven to be largely unsuccessful. The people who want to use the .misc group in accord with its charter are apparently quite frustrated. The proponent of the reorganization has requested that the aliasing be changed to point rec.sport.basketball to rec.sport.basketball.pro, and from what I can ascertain this seems very reasonable. If you would take a few moments to switch the alias at your site, it would be very appreciated by the basketball fans of USENET. Moral of the story: it is not always the most reasonable course of action to plan that the natural progression in a reorganization of a broadly based existing group is to make it the new .misc group. Moral number two: Network news could probably use a few more control commands. -- (setq mail '("tale@rpi.edu" "uupsi!rpi!tale" "tale@rpitsmts.bitnet"))
