[comp.sys.intel] how can I purchase an Intel 386 motherboard?

dyer@spdcc.COM (Steve Dyer) (05/10/87)

I see regular mention of an Intel 386 motherboard, but there doesn't
seem to be any well-publicised way of purchasing one. I am inclined
to believe that this might be the easiest way to upgrade my AT clone,
given the physical constraints imposed by the Intel Inboard/386 (the
cable which plugs into the 286 socket is fragile and isn't guaranteed
to reach if your clone places the chip in an unusual place; also, you
have to set your motherboard to use only 256K of its memory, something
that I can't do on my clone.)

Is the Intel 386 motherboard available directly from Intel? Whom do I
contact? What is a reasonable price?

In a previous article somebody asked for a source for 386 motherboards
to put in his ATCL1 (spell it out). I'm even easier than that - I'd
be happy to have one of the "defective" 386's - i have no near term
plans to do 32 bit stuff -> fast 16 is good enuf for me.

Sorry to post but my mail was returned to sender due to insufficient
postage.

Intel does not sell 80386 motherboards to anyone other than OEMs.
For most people you are better off buying 386 InBoards: They are
faster, and better supported than a motherboard.
