We have a donated 310 system with Xenix 3.x, 512 Kb memory and 20 M disk. The main application we have requires FORTRAN and/or BASIC compilers/interpreters. We managed to get these from Intel, but then the system crashed really badly. We had installed these but had not yet used them before the crash. We had to shelve the project since the hardware was out, and we were not having much luck keeping it running once it came back from the 'shop'. Finally the (all of them) problems were fixed, but we were onto other things by then. Now we are trying to restart the project (controlling a milling machine), and we reinstalled the FORTRAN and BASIC code. (Since we have only 512K we couldn't install new Xenix 4.x) .But the FORTRAN process kills itself (fc command, is this copy protection?) and the BASIC interpreter reports all kinds of errors (such as an illegal stty option, which makes it look like this wasn't even supoosed to run on this system). We are trying to contact Intel, but have to go through a local distributer, so we are not getting anywhere very fast since we are all playing telephone tag. So... anyone have any ideas. We would even consider totally new (or updated) compilers. Any suggestions for such. I would gladly write new code in C, but there are many existing programs in FORTRAN and Applesoft. Any pointers to compilers or suggestion for things to check? Any help would be most appreciated. Does anyone from Intel read this group? We are trying to use your products, but .... Suggestions for products or someone to contact. <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> Thomas Hern Department of Mathematics & Statistics Bowling Green State Univ.
