From: Mike Caplinger <mike@RICE.ARPA> Does anybody have any information about efs, the remote file system daemon that shows up under 4.2 as an efs service in /etc/services? We got the source for the daemon with our 2.9 distribution, but there seems to be more needed. Briefly, it appears to be a series of kernel hacks, a net daemon, and a library to allow access to "remote file names" to be turned into requests to the daemon on the remote machine, allowing (probably slow) remote file system access. Does anybody have the complete source for this thing, or something similar? How fast is it? We don't really care about speeds even closely competive with local file access, but with 6 VAXen and 16 Suns, we really need the functionality. - Mike ps. Already know about the Newcastle Connection; know how much it costs, too.
