[comp.sys.intel] AT to PDS file transfer

spalding@uiucdcsp.cs.uiuc.edu (05/15/88)

Does anybody know of a good method of transferring files from a
PC AT compatible to an Intel Personal Development System (iPDS
running the ISIS operating system)? A communication program for the iPDS
supporting XMODEM or Kermit or a disk conversion utility running on
either machine ought to do the trick. Specifically, I want to run
MCS-51 program development software on the AT, then download the
object file (binary, not printable) to the iPDS so I can use the
emv51a emulation vehicle. File transfer in both directions would be
nice, but I am primarily interested in transferring binary files
from the AT to the iPDS.

Thanks in advance.

i ran in to a similar situation trying to transfer files between
an intel RMX286 system and a DOS machine.

you might try

a) contacting your local intel office to get a listing of the
programs available via the intel user's group. they likely
have a DOS<-->ISIS diskette conversion utility that runs on
   one side or the other.

b) contacting a company called RTCS, 1390 flynn road, unit e, camarillo,
ca 93010, tel 805/987-9781. they apparently have a number of
conversion/communication utilities for DOS <--> ISIS <--> RMX.
i have never used their products and have no opinion of how
   and whether these utitilies work.

c) if you have internet access, fetching the ISIS/DOS versions of
kermit from columbia.edu (128.59.32.128). you need to use
ftp, log in as ANONYMOUS, any password, cd to KER:, and
fetch the file called MSAAAA.HLP. it explains the file
naming conventions for the various flavors of kermit source
archived. you can then fetch the encoded binaries or sources
   that you need.

Sources for zmodem and kermit are available. Perhaps you could port one
of those.

I sent a reply to the originator via e-mail, but it must have ended up in
the BB somewhere, so I'll try it publicly.

There is a Kermit version for Intel Devel. Systems in the Columbia Univ.
distribution tape. We took that version and enhanced it somewhat and
re-submitted it for later distribution. If you want the source, contact
me and I will e-mail it to you. Or i might be able to send it on a PDS
floppy. BTW, this version of Kermit works on Series III and IV Devel.
Systems also.
