About 9 months ago, somebody posted a message that Intel had ported the GNU compiler to the Intel i960 processor. They stated that a version of it can be obtained from a site called cs.umn.edu (128.101.224.1). At the time, I think this version was only a Beta version of the software. What I would like to know now is where I could get my hands on a newer version of this port preferably by internet. Also, I have an Intel i960CA board from Heurikon and am having trouble getting the GNU compiler to handle floating point operations. Does anybody know how this can be done? Any thoughts on the overall performance of the GNU compiler on the i960? On some of my tests, it doesn't appear to produce real great assembly code. After I hacked up the assembly code, the i960 appeared to be relatively fast. Also, does anybody know about a preprocessor to the Intel i960 assembly code that will reorder the instructions to optimize the number of instructions that can execute in parallel.
