[comp.sys.intel] i860: Metaware Compiler Questions

francis@ircam.fr (Joseph Francis) (05/03/91)

I am using the i860 C compiler from Metaware in conjunction with the
gcc front-end, and I have several questions I'd like to address to
those who have used it before:

1. does the -sched instruction scheduling optimization actually work?
The compiler invoked with the switch produces assembly code no
different from that without the switch.

2. does the -O optimization really do much at all?

3. the compiler breaks with some floating-point code with -O switch.
Is this a known bug, and is there a workaround?

4. running 'strings' on the compiler executable 'hc8602' indicates
that there is an enormous volume of potentially interesting traces to
watch during optimization. Can I access these?

For Reference:
	Metaware High C Compiler R2.1f
	High C Programmer's Guide, Version 2.2 for Intel 80860

All help is appreciated; I will try to summarize if there is a good
volume of mail
