Since I have not had a response to my query yesterday about an Intel hot-line, I am posting the observations I have made in the hopes that someone out there has seen these, and knows the solution. We are using the Intel SCC-82530 in bi-sync mode. When programmed for bi-sync, auto-enable, and external sync detect, it seems to put the SCC into promiscuous mode. That is once DCD is asserted, the receiver is receiving characters, independent of the state of the external-sync-detect input. It also appears that under these conditions, the SCC doesn't send sync characters at the start of transmission as it normally would. I guess this is somewhat reasonable though, since it doesn't know what the real (ext) sync sequence is. Please email responses directly to me, and please feel to cross post to any news group where you feel I am more likely to find help. Thanks, Don.
