xxx Thanks for all the response on the query regarding the hanging system; it turns out my first report was not entirely accurate. This report will be perfect, of course. What happens is that when garbage is introduced on the add-on AST serial card, the device driver gives up and offers the "Garbage on dev %d, shut down port" message and then refuses to read any ports, including all the console ports, so you can not even get a "ps" or even log in. I apologize we are just now getting our netnews feed up for the first time and are not able to pick up news yet from our neighbor, though we can get messages out as evidenced by the pleasing responses we have received.
