Someone wrote me about multiport cards telling me about the ARNET Smartcard
and the Digiboard 8-port intelligent card. They mentioned that there
was a way to use RJ-45 (fat "telephone type" cable and plug) cables with this
device by going to any electronic supply store and buying a standard RS-232 to
RJ-45 adapter.
I called a few stores on the phone and they said that they did not have such a
thing and they sounded like they did not really know what I was talking about.
I want to do this for two reasons:
a. I have never made a cable, and I heard that if you dont know exactly
what you are doing, you should not even try (if you dont want to waist time
and money). And I dont!
b. I want to run RJ-45 cable because it needs to be routed through an
attic and around the outside of a house. Also, if I use the RJ-45 jack,
I dont have to worry about creating connections and such.
Where do I get this RS-232 to RJ-45 converter?
Is this a good way to get around having to make my RS-232 cables for
for terminals 100+ feet away?
Thanks
