[comp.unix.xenix] 16450 based sio/pio card for a 386 based Xenix system...

mitchell@cadovax.UUCP (Mitchell Lerner) (05/12/87)

Does anyone know why Xenix displays "garbage on the line... " and
trapps in the user process, locking up the tty driver for the
port when I try to do reads from a port running Xenix 2.1.3 on my
AT with an Intel 386 mother board??? Reads work fine tho.

I installed a 16450 chip in my SIO/PIO card as per SCO's instructions
and now the OS seems to see the card and the port but I cant do read
operations without this fatal error.

This same thing happens in my serial comms. application as well as in
kermit and cat.

Is there a special way that I have to configure the driver or somthing???

Thanks,

Mitchell

I also had problems with older versions of Xenix wedging the serial
port, even with the 16450 chip.

I haven't had any such problems with 2.2 Xenix or 386 Toolkit, which
also support 19.2 and 38.4 kb.

I'm running an Intel motherboard goosed to 18 mHz, and a Kimtron Quartet
card with four 8250's.
