Occasionally, I need to logon to an ibm-xenix system from my sun3 but I've been unable to get a functional termcap--starting up vi with any variant of the usual termcap that i use for example on vaxen and the pyramid here gives a message to the effect "screen too large for buffer". If anyone could help on this I'd be very grateful. (I thought at first that this might be simply a matter of the number of lines, or line length, but adjusting them doesn't seem to fix the problem.) I'm running ibm xenix on an AT with two harddisks, the second drive (hd1) is a 44 M miniscribe which has one big /usr partition on it. Unhappily, this drive this morning started producing messages like error on device 0/8 cyl =0 track = 0 err 0010 status 0051 can't read bad block list on drive 1 warning invalid partition talbe on Drive 1 My question is: is this absolute doom, or is there some means of recovering pieces of the file system from this drive? Fdisk doesn't recognize the existence of the xenix partition on the problem disk, running fdisk /dev/rhd10 produces similar(identical ) messages to those above. Any suggestions extremely welcome at this stage.
