I will be purchasing a PC-AT with a Techmar Q60AT Tape Drive(no alternate tape drives can be substituted, unfortunately). I will be evaluating both microport sysV/at, and IBM Xenix on the machine. Neither of these include support for the techmar tape. I need source code for a driver for either or both xenix & microport for this tape drive. Also, if anyone has C source for a tape device driver that I might be able to easily modify for the techmar, I could use that if no actual driver exists. You help will be appreciated, -- David A. SCO XENIX 2.2.1 has support for the Tecmar QIC60AT with the
"long controller board", which is a Wangtek PC36 card. If
you have a Tecmar tape drive with the "short card" which
just provides a controller interface, you're out of luck.
Tecmar considers the controller info proprietary and won't
release it. After several months of calling, I was pointed to
the firm which developed the DOS software for their tape
drive. They told me that they had a XENIX driver coming out
in a few weeks (this was a month or so ago), but I never pursued
it due to my upgrade to XENIX 386, which isn't compatible with
286 drivers anyway. I bought a Wangtek tape drive which is also
supported by SCO, and I've lived happily ever after. I wish I had
done that a long time ago.
The firm is known as "Colorado Memory Systems" in Loveland, CO.
I don't have their phone no. handy, but they're in directory assistance.
