I'm trying to enlarge the cramped 640 Kb brain of my Compaq Portable II for use by Xenix. However, off-the-shelf memory boards are giving me problems. A 4meg expansion board (including serial and parallel ports) from Taiwan (can't even give you the name ;) that works fine under MS-Dos, gives 'Panic - parity error' under Xenix. The board is stuffed with 120 ns 256kbit chips, so I figured it would be fast enough. Still I think the speed is the cause of the trouble. Has any of the Xenix/Compaq users on this board given their baby more memory? And if with success: what brand of memory card was used? Am I right in my assumption that the lack of speed _is_ the source of the problems? Does 80286 mode Xenix obviously uses require faster memory? Paul Molenaar
