[comp.unix.xenix] Synoptics Twisted Wire Ethernet System

mdella@polyslo.UUCP (Marcos R. Della) (09/23/87)

I have been looking into installing an Ethernet system at our site
here in California, but cannot go to a cabling (yellow coax) arrangment
because of the multiple building layouts.

Synoptics offers a twisted pair cabling system that uses the standard
phone lines for transporting ethernet to your desk. Has anyone out there
had any experiance with this product?

Another question. Does anyone know of any product that will allow an
ethernet line to be set up between buildings wither with fiber optics
or phone cabling? We're looking at distances from 500 feet up to a
mile and a half. Also, we need an ethernet connection from our location
here to a site 350 miles north of us. Is there a way to latch ethernet onto
a T1 line or is microwave/transmissions the only way to do this?

Any help in these areas would be greatly appreciated. If you drop me a note
can you address it to the address at the bottom of this? Thanks...
