[comp.unix.xenix] From Beneath the Planet of the Microport

myxm@beta.UUCP (10/30/87)

A while back I was involved in some serious uport bashing because of the
way one of the technicians there handled my problem. For a quick recap,
I got their software (version 2.2.2) awhich was delivered in quite a slow
fashion; it had a rotten floppy; the uport tech support promised a new one;
I got a new one (wrong); I got another new one (right); and then I went away
for a while.

Well, the bugs with 2.2.2 were just incredible. The floppy light stayed on;
the modem hung with double panics; the uucp deletes large files after transfer;
the list went on. I called up the sales people at uport to get the upgrade
to 2.3. Well, after talking to some new folks who didn't know that they had
2.3 in the sales area, I finally talked them into shipping me the upgrade
($$ of course). I also talked to the tech support and got some fixes for
my strange uucp problem (Honey DanBer).

Well, as the story goes, if you get uport, make sure they sell you their
latest version (2.3). I got my copy of 2.2.2 as one of the last ones they
were shipping in order to clear the store room for the 2.3s. AAs it goes
now, 2.3 is much more stable and has less problems which I have encountered.
Now my major problem is getting my favorite utilities from the real
world to work on it. This is a different story...

If you have to buy it, insist on the latest version.
