[comp.unix.xenix] uucico bug?

brianc@cognos.uucp (Brian Campbell) (12/08/87)

I finally got around to upgrading to XENIX 2.2.0 from 2.1.3, and am
beginning to regret it.

I use uucp extensively in transferring files back and forth between
various systems. Starting with the 2.2.0 distribution of uucico
@(#) cico 1.3 86/12/18, uucp has failed to transfer a single file. Soon
after any transfer is started, it is aborted (according to LOGFILE)
because:

   USERFILE: access denied ()

It took a while to track down, but it appears that:

   uucp file system!~

is no longer valid. The 2.2.0 uucico doesn't seem to recognize ~ as a
valid path (2.1.3 accepted this). It is now necessary to use ~uucp as
the destination path.

Has anyone else run into this problem? Is it a bug with 2.1.3, or
2.2.0? Is there a patch available?

P.S. I found the error message to extremely un-informative. It seems
to me that the user authorization suceeds (I made dozens of changes to
USERFILE trying to ensure that both the user and site were valid, and
that the permissions on USERFILE made it readable).
