The Great OS Search continues ...

Still looking for comments on real-time Unix-ish OS's. We've
ruled out QNX (C compiler small model only; not close to Unix) and
Regulus (only one comment, and that was a flame).

What about Venix? I briefly used a version for the PC in 1983, and it
seemed as reasonable as Unix on an IBM XT could. Is it worth looking at
today? Venturcom is advertising SVID conformance with a real-time kernel.
Also the $600 price (until 12/31/87) is pretty tempting. I do note that
comp.unix.venix seems to have evaporated ...

Thanks in advance; please reply by mail & I'll post a summary.

I am using Venix for several years now and have the folowing comments.

1. it IS System V UNIX.

2. It has a faster 'feel' for the interactive user than Xenix or Microport

3. It seems to be bug free. This system is running news and I am doing most
of the development on it. I have had no problems for at least a year now,
and the system is on the air 24 hours a day.

A few times I had to remove the -O options when compiling, but same
   counts for 3B2 UNIX.

4. Venturecom claims it to be REAL TIME. I have no experience with
REAL real-time on this system, and don't know if the venix system calls
   are interruptable.

PS. Anyone out there has a way to install 2.2 on a Seagate ST4096 disk?
