I have a friend that is seriously considering going from his DOS-based, word processing and accounting/order entry application environment to a multi-user (3->5) Xenix-based (286) word processing and accounting app. environment. The only way that I know of finding out about software that exists for Xenix is to call SCO and ask. That is how I found out about the different accounting applications that we are currently looking into (currently looking into Open Systems' product. Any suggestions, experiences???). Is there some publication or something that talks about what software is currently available for SCO Xenix??? SUN has a book that they publish called Catylist or something. Is there something similar for the Xenix world? Is there some word processor that he can use for his Xenix system other than SCO's Lyrix(sp?)??? $795.00 is a lot of money for him to spend on a word processor at this time. I'm sure that it's a great product but he is considering just having his people do W.P. on his MAC rather than spend another $800.00 on another word processor. Is there some nice little, inexpensive W.P. that somebody wrote that he could use just to write letters and stuff (public domain/ sharware would be great!!!)? How about games and stuff? On-line calendars? Spread sheet programs that dont cost an arm and a leg? How do people that aren't on the net find out about this kind of stuff anyway? Thanks a lot! -- Mitchell Lerner UUCP: {ucbvax,ihnp4,decvax}!trwrb!cadovax!mitchell "When I fight with my mind, my mind always wins" - Ben Hummel

SCO publishes a software catalogue for XENIX. They have an 800 number so it should not be too expensive. I do find it amazing that the two UNIX magazines "UNIX Review" and "UNIX World" are so little read. There are plenty of ads and (shoddy) product reviews there. Mark T. The XENIX System V Third-Party Products Directory is available from SCO or Microsoft by writing to them or calling them. The Fall 1987 edition is almost two inches thick; there's quite a lot of software out there for sale. --- Steve Dyer dyer@arktouros.MIT.EDU dyer@spdcc.COM aka {harvard,wanginst,ima,ihnp4,bbn,m2c}!spdcc!dyer

It is a paperback book about 1 1/2" thick and contains information on a huge variety of software, grouped by type (Accounting, Word Processing, etc.). -- Mark D. The "bibel" is called >>XENIX System V Third-Party Products Directory<< - it has ~950 Pages and contains short product descriptions addresses etc. We received it for free from SCO London, but the first page says: Additional copies of this Directory may be obtained by writing or calling the following: The Santa Cruz Operation Inc. 400 Encinal Street P.O. It is rather thick and contains lots of good stuff. Call the SCO sales department and ask for a "3rd party catalog". -- Eric Griswold (ericg@sco.COM) "That's no baby. Sure is. They used to have a problem getting vendors in it (we know we tried to get stuff in it for about 2 years) but it appears they have their act together. It has both Microsoft and SCO on the cover but it is clearly SCO's Third Party Software Catalog. Call SCO and I'll bet they will send you one. -- Phil uunet!pilchuck!ssc!fyl
