We recently purchased a 30Mb, 640k, 8Mhz IBM PC-AT, and IBM Xenix 2.0 (run time, text and development). The system has one IBM serial/parallel adaptor and one AST advantage board with a serial and parallel adaptor. The IBM board is configured as COM1 and LPT2. Everything installed and seems to run fine. However, whenever we to try set the COM1 port speed with an stty command the process hangs until we press delete then gives the error message: stty: can not open /dev/tty00 Access rights on tty00 are 666. If we enable the port and try to boot, the system also hangs until we press delete, then continues with the boot process, without giving any error messages. We have used a DOS terminal emulator to check the port and it seems to work just fine. We have talked to IBM (through our dealer, arghh, is there a direct line to IBM for XENIX support???) but the answers seem to indicate they know even less than we do about XENIX. If anybody out there has had this experience or has some idea of what the problem might be, we would appreciate it if you would send mail to us. When we find a solution, we will post to the net. Thanks in advance for your help!!! joan (Egloff-Olson) {sun, cpsc6a, mtxinu}!rtech!joan
