[comp.unix.xenix] uucico problem???

todd@uhccux.UUCP (The Perplexed Wiz) (03/01/88)

A friend is experiencing an odd sounding uucico problem with his Xenix 2.2.1
system. It seems that uucico does not send a carriage return when a '\r'
is placed in the sys file. Instead, it sends a literal backslash (\) 'r'
(r). Any ideas what is going on? Here is his system configuration.

	Empac 80286 (AT clone)
	SCO Xenix/286 2.2.1
AST I/O card (for serial ports)
	Racal Vadic 1200B modem

Thanks...todd

SCO has a replacement disk that fixes this problem. Call SCO and ask
for the Telebit Trailblazer fix disk. Also on the disk is the man page
for uucico, a dialer for the Trailblazer, a new cu and a new rmail.

I am trying to connect an AT&T PC6300 running Xenix Version 3.0
Release 1.3 to the outside world in two ways:

	1. Through a Hayes modem,

	2. And via a network called "datakit".

In each case, my chat strings in L.sys mimic what I have
used successfully in AT&T UNIX machines (3b2, UNIX PC).
I suspect I have the same problem because I cannot "wake up"
the called end with "\r" like I can with UNIX.

Any help would be much appreciated.

SCO has a "Trailblazer Fix Disk". Call customer support for it.

Besides the Trailblazer stuff, it includes a new uucico that allows
\r \d and other good stuff in the expect-send pairs in L.sys. A new
man page about it is included on the disk.

i have this problem also running xenix on a 386. i suspect others have
had this trouble since the first L.sys line i gave out included some
\r's, and many of the initial connections failed. now i use BREAK and
EOT, both of which seem to work.

SCO has a new version of UUCP available that supports the Telebit modem,
as well as allowing \r's (at least they seem to work for me.)

All you have to do is contact their support line: 1-800-626-4381. Seems
to be a freebie for registered customers; at least they didn't charge us
anything. By the way, their support has been excellent the few times I've
called.
