[comp.unix.xenix] What is L_stat for?

root@rpp386.UUCP (Super user) (05/08/88)

there is this file, /usr/lib/uucp/L_stat, on this system which is of the
format

system	time	##

where system is a uucp system name, time is a long integer time, and ##
is some unknown number. this is the old style uucp on SCO Xenix 2.2.1.
what i want to know is, what does ## represent? i talk to about 500
different systems per month and would like some way of knowing
when/what/etc is going on. in particular, i'd like to know the number
of systems which i have successfully had a conversation with in the
past day/week/month. the time field gives something that looks like a
time, however, it is updated even if the conversation is not successful,
or no connection is made.

all help is welcome ...

The ## field is, as I recall, a status number telling what operation
was done and other useful information that can be obtained with the
uustat program (unless your uucp, uux, uucico, etc. were compiled with
the flag that says not to bother updating the L_stat file).

I find it to be a total waste of time. I just look at the LOGFILE file.
