[comp.unix.xenix] Xenix Development Help Wanted

jamesd@lakesys.UUCP (James Dicke) (07/09/88)

Hello again,

I have some more specific questions now...

What I am really looking for is NOT a MAC-like graphics interface, but
rather a simple text pop-up querry/windows and such to help selecting items
etc. What I'm actually going to need are the basic tools for developing
software for Xenix in C. It must look and run excellent. Thus I need a
library of routines for Data Entry, Pop up Menus, Screen Displays, Windowing,
and most important an effective DATABASE manager to link into. I most likly
need the source to all these things except the DATABASE manager but the DB
manager must be able to run under PC-Xenix or Unix Sys V on a NCR. Our main
concern is the PC world but we would like to be able to port over to the NCR
tower to do a few fast jobs (programs).

1) What type of "pre-programed" environments for TEXT windowing and browsing
are avaliable today? (ie I don't want to start from square one) (Must have C
source code too) Are there any dataentry/feild maintenance packages out
there (example, for entering cutomers the screen would display a set of fields
from a database and allow entery/modifiactions, occasionaly a window would pop
up to help select codes and such) ?

2) What avaiable database managers are there (such as BTRIEVE & ADVANCED
REVELATION in the DOS PC world) today? Which ones have a "runtime" in Xenix as
well as UNIX (NCR Tower) ? I don't care about source code, just portability
and functionality. Hopfully I can just make "calls" to the manager to make it
add/delete records (while maintaning its own indexes) and some get
next/previous/equal features. Purhaps a re-indexing on the fly would be nice.

3) Anything else avaliable to save me development time? We wish to write an
acounting and inventory type of system. Any help/input would be welcome. Also
what are a few good magazines to pick up on these subjects? (I can always look
at ads to get companies that sell this sort of stuff). I geuss I'm a firm
beleiver in NOT re-inventing the wheel...

Thank you...
