We are trying to supply a customer with tape backup for their PS/2 model 60 under SCO Xenix. We purchased an Exerex Excel Streaming Tape unit (version 4.2), which we hoped to install inside the Model 60 cabinet. When it arrived, we found that there were no mounting materials or y-power cable, so we chose to install it in its external cabinet. Well, the Micro-channel card went in fine, and it runs under DOS, but we want it to run under SCO Xenix 2.2. So, we ask the supplier for a device driver, and they say sure - three weeks later a 5.25" floppy disk arrives in the mail! It turned out to be the generic '386 version on the driver, not one that is intended for the Model 60 - well, we don't have an external 5.25" drive for the PS/2, nor do we have a 3.5" drive on our other Xenix machine, so we can't copy it - is it likely to even work? Our supply says that it will take TWO MONTHS for the real PS/2 driver to arrive on 3.5" media - has anyone actually seen this beast? Does it exist? Has anyone had any experiences (good, bad or indifferent) with tape backups on a PS/2 under SCO Xenix? Can you recommend something that actually works please? Reply via E-mail (if you can) and I will summarise....
