[comp.unix.xenix] Looking for Tape Drive info.

mikel@percival.UUCP (Mike Lang) (08/25/88)

We are looking for a 40MB or larger tape drive for use on a WYSE pc286.
The only complication is that our operating system is IBM XENIX 2.0
and IBM XENIX doesn't support tape drives.

Are there any tape drivers available for IBM XENIX, and what is the
quality of them? Any response would be appreciated.

I'm using an Everex 60 MB (actually, almost 64 MB) tape drive with the
"long board" on Xenix 2.3 (beta). This is the first version where the
tape drive works exactly as it should, including recovery from write
errors, without dropping the 386 clock rate to 8 mHz.

There is a newer half length Everex tape interace board, but nobody I
know has been able to get it to work.

The 2.3 tape driver also has code to support 120/150 MB tape drives.
