[comp.unix.xenix] NetBIOS, 3COM Etherlink Plus and Xenix?

jimx@ihlpa.ATT.COM (Harris) (09/07/88)

As the subject line perhaps says, has anyone found a way to run Xenix
on a 6386 WGS, and have it make NetBIOS calls through a 3COM
Etherlink Plus card? Or, has anyone ever been able to get DOS PCs
and Xenix PCs to talk together peer-to-peer over Ethernet? The
application I am working with requires the sending of short messages
between peers, currently done through a NetBIOS sesion (neither datagrams
nor file-sharing will work for this application). A typical message is ~64 bytes.
One machine on the LAN must run either Xenix or a version of the UNIX(R)
system, and the others DOS. Right now we have a 3COM network up, but
I'm willing to scrap it if we get our UNIX box to talk to the DOS ones
another way.

If you have any ideas, please email them to me, and I will post a
summary of any significant responses.

Thanks in advance,

Jim Harris
