About 6 months ago I announced on EUNET that I have C-source (written myself) for Tex, running on Xenix 286. As I got on the net in the US only recently, I don't know if something similar has been posted here. My version of Tex runs on different Unix versions, but I especially put a lot of effort in making it run on Xenix. This was a tough nut to crack, as Tex does not expect 16-bit integers, and just using longs everywhere would make it extremely slow. At our univ we had several different Xenix versions, all having different compiler bugs (related to huge memory model). It only compiles succesfully on the SCO Xenix 2.2 compiler, but the binary may run on other Xenix's (not all though). Is it fast? On the "big" machines it's slightly faster than ctex, on the AT it's definitely faster than Tex versions for DOS. Is it big? It's the real thing, over 800 Kbytes big, so it cannot run unless you have at least 1.5Mbyte of ram (hopefully plenty more). An "undump" program, EGA previewer and Epson-driver are included of course. Definitely public domain. If you are interested, please respond by e-mail (only!) If there is sufficient interest I will post the program (as I did in Europe). If not I'll just e-mail the source to whoever wants it. (after all, posting is expensive) Remember: this is just the program. You still need a regular Tex distribution to get macros, fonts, etc. Send replies to debra@research.att.com. Paul De Bra.
