I'm planning a 386 system purchase in the next few months. I would like to run with 2 Meg, since it's my own $$$ involved. It seems that Sys V/386 will not run in 2 Meg, but Xenix 386 will; could anyone with actual experience comment on this? Also, how much impact will this have on single-user operation - will a 2 Meg system be unusably slow? Darn those DRAM prices anyway. The department I work in has several AT&T 6386WGS's which all came in with 2MB RAM. We are running Sys V/386 on some of them, mostly as single user machines. They seem to do OK, but are not heavily loaded. -Dave "Credo quia absurdum" ------------------------------------------------------------------ /^, , , . . , , , , , / } _, , , . __/ | /| / /| /| , , __, __/ /_ _, __, /_ /_./ (_l |/ / /_/ |/ |/. / |/ | /_/ / / /_/ / / /_ / / /\ Disclaimer: My opinions do not reflect those of anyone I work for or with, or anyone who does not look like me.

It works great (even works in 1 meg if necessary) and it is not slow. I don't know how it will slow if you add multiple terminals (we push them up to 4 meg of memory), but it sounds like you will be the only one on. Jonathan Bayer Intelligent Software Products, Inc.

System V/386 (aka ISC 386/ix, Bell Tech, AT&T and Microport) will run fine with 2Mb, provided you don't have more than one or two users or do any heavy VP/ixing. It bends pretty fast if you load them much more than that. We're not configuring any systems with 2mb anymore. -- Chris Lewis Ferret Mailing list:{uunet!attcan,yunexus,utzoo}!lsuc!gate!eci386!ferret-request {uunet!attcan, uunet, utgpu, yunexus, utzoo}!lsuc!ecicrl!clewis (or lsuc!gate!eci386!clewis or lsuc!clewis)
