In the latest SCO release (2.3.1), placing a blank line in /etc/passwd causes the file to be truncated at that point (wiping out all entries below the blank line) the next time 'passwd' is run. I'm sure this is a repair for a related "feature" found in previous releases, but was truncating the remainder of the file thought to be the best possible solution? Since the file obviously has to be recreated, why not just skip blank lines when building the temp file?
