[comp.unix.xenix] Help! Ungetty, uucp and kermit

skrenta@eecs.nwu.edu (Richard Skrenta) (12/15/88)

I'm trying to get ungetty, dialin and dialout all coordinated, and I'm having
a few problems. I've got two modems, one on my voice line, and one on my
dialin line. I'd like uucp to use the dialin line first, and only use the
voice line if someone is logged into the dialin line. Ungetty does a good
job of fixing the getty on the dialin line, but it seems to bomb out if
someone is logged into that line without going onto the second dialer device
in L-devices.

I also like to use kermit to call up other systems. Kermit handles lockfiles
in /usr/spool/uucp, but getty and ungetty don't seem to use these. Kermit
doesn't tell ungetty to secure the dialin line either.

So, what I think I need to do is to get kermit to do a ungetty on a port before
it starts to use it, then do the ungetty -r to turn it back on for dialins when
it's done. Also, I need some way of creating a lock file when someone logs
in on my dialin port, so kermit or uucp won't use that line.

Can anyone help me out here? Are better getty programs available which will
do this and work under Xenix 2.2.1? Is there something that I'm overlooking?

Thanks,

Rich Skrenta
