[comp.unix.xenix] scsi drives with adaptec aha-1540 c

>hi !
>does anyone have experiences with adaptec scsi controllers under xenix ?!

Here at Tandy, we have been selling the AHA-1540 since 2/88. We have many
machines running with 40,80,170,344 and 150MB tapes. It has been a very
pleasant experience. The product is very good and reliable. We, like so
many on the net, depend on our machines for our day to day existence and
demand a reliable product for those machines. This one has been a winner.
The performance is far better than any ST-506/ESDI drive controller
combination we have used for the money. I don't want to sound like a
commercial, but just another engineer who depends on good solid hardware.

The drivers are not available from Tandy, but we do have a version of SCO
Xenix (2.2.4) that supports both ST-506/SCSI and allows the SCSI device
to be the boot device. SCO really did a nice job of incorporating the
SCSI stuff into the OS. There is a gentleman I have had many E-mail
conversations with who could give you some more info, as a completely
independent user, but I don't have his path. If you have already invested
in the OS, I can't help. I know the work that SCO did, was a bit more
indepth than simply adding the driver. All the support routines work
with it and the ability to boot was something really new. Multi
controller support was also not trivial. If you would like more technical
info, please e-mail me and I will respond.
