I posted a question asking if anyone had used SCO Xenix on an IBM PS/2 model 50z a few weeks ago. Since that time, I have still not yet been able to get Xenix to work but have learned some information that may be helpful to others. In the Sep/Oct 1988 issue of DISCOVER magazine published by SCO on page 30 it states that Xenix standard Release 2.2.2 does not work with the 286-based Model 50z, but will work if you order a fix called "PS/2 Model 50z ESDI Fix" (SLF xnx100) from Santa Cruz. It also states that if you order the "now available" release 2.3, the 50z is fully supported in the standard release. I have since found out that release 2.3 for the 286-based PS/2s is not available. SCO is currently shipping release 2.2.3 which is supposed to work with most configurations of the 50z but not with the 30 megabyte ESDI hard disk that I have. To make Xenix work on a 50z w/30M ESDI hard disk, I am told that I need (1) release 2.2.3 and a fix from SCO called SLF xnx103. The standard 2.2.3 appears to get confused during the installation process. I have found the people at SCO very friendly and helpful, but I had spoken to at least 10 people (mostly sales) that didn't know the above information. The inaccurate information in their newsletter also helped to confuse matters. When I was finally able to reach the seasoned technical support people (after waiting on hold for over an hour), they knew the answer immediately. I realize that this information may not be useful to many people, but it may save some a lot of frustration. Raymond R. Curci ...!uunet!stat.fsu.edu!egghead!curci
