[comp.unix.xenix] RS 4000/4000LX with SCSI drives and XENIX 386

mikes@sir-alan.UUCP (Mike Squires) (01/13/89)

I have a 4000LX with the 344MB SCSI HD drive and 150MB catridge tape on
order. Tandy is apparently shipping XENIX 386 v 2.2.4 at this time; the
reason appears to be that SCSI drives are not supported with XENIX 386
2.3.1. Does anyone know if this is a temporary glitch or a more permanent
problem? The rumor I've heard is that the 2.2.x drivers were written by
Tandy and that they have not written 2.3.1 drivers yet.

Mike,

I have heard reports (from sources near Tandy) that a new Xenix (2.3GT)
is due out very soon. It is supposed to be "95%" of the upcoming SCO
Unix release, or so I am told via grape vine. One thing in particular
I know of is that it is supposed to support two (???) SCSI drive
controller cards. This opens up a lot of possibilties. I am also
told that it will more than likely carry on support for bernuolli boxes
(8"-10meg,20meg and 5.25"-20meg internal).

You might check with Tandyor details. I only know these things as second
and third hand details, but it should offer some hope.

Mark.
