[comp.unix.xenix] WARNING, don't UPGRADE SCO Xenix 2.2.2 to 2.3.1, REINSTALL instead.

morris@dms.UUCP (Jim Morris) (01/24/89)

I found out this morning that the Update R that is meant to upgrade
SCO Xenix 2.2 to 2.3.1 only works for versions GREATER THAN ( > ) and
NOT INCLUDING 2.2.2, This is from Tech support at SCO.

Of course I found out only after doing the upgrade, I had to re-install in
the end to get it to work.
My observatiuon is that it seems to work, unless you install extra drivers,
then it won't boot the Kernel. De-installing the drivers you just installed
will allow it to boot again.

In the installation notes V2.3 Update R page 2, it says:

QUOTE

Reinstallation is necessary if either of the following is true:

o	You need to enlarge your root filesystem to accomodate
the new packages you wish to install.

o	You are updating from a release prior to 2.2.2

ENDQUOTE

The second paragraph should read:

o	You are updating from a release prior to 2.2.3

I just want to save other people the hassle of upgrading, then reinstalling.

It is somewhat time consuming.
