I have recently installed SCO Xenix 386 2.3.1 on an ALR 386/220. I also installed the "International Supplement" 2.0. Now when I use the "mapchan" command on /dev/lp0, there is a pause of about 3 seconds, and then the machine resets and performs a complete power-on boot sequence. I have no problem with mapchan on the console or the serial line, only with the parallel printer. Plain printing also works ok. Am I doing something the wrong way, or is this a bug? Is there anyone at all besides me using the international supplement? Another thing I am wondering about, is wether it is possible to use cu and uucp on the same serial line from this 8-bit Xenix system, connecting to another 7-bit Unix system, without constantly switching the character mapping on that line on and off. The 7-bit system is using a national variation of ASCII for texts, that should be mapped to/from 8-bit codes. On the other hand, uucp didn't work with mapping turned on, when I tried. I think uucp ought to turn mapping off automatically, since uucp uses binary data (versus text) in it's transfer protocol, that never will work if mapped to other characters. -- Kristoffer Eriksson, Peridot Konsult AB, Hagagatan 6, S-703 40 Oerebro, Sweden Phone: +46 19-13 03 60 ! e-mail: ske@pkmab.se Fax: +46 19-11 51 03 ! or ...{uunet,mcvax}!enea!kullmar!pkmab!ske
