Several people who have requested pdtar, my XENIX <==> MSDOS version of GNU tar have expressed surprise that 360 floppies can be used at 720 K. Here is a copy of my modified /etc/default/tar file. The archive4 entry causes my A (1.2 meg) drive to write at 720 K. To format use format /dev/rd096ds9 I've been running 360 floppies at 720 without a single problem for over a year. Generally this is more cost effective than buying 1.2 meg floppies. pdtar can read these under Messy Dos if you have to slum. # @(#) tar.dfl.src 1.5 87/03/19 # device block size tape archive0=/dev/rfd048ds9 18 360 n archive1=/dev/rfd148ds9 18 360 n archive2=/dev/rfd096ds15 10 1200 n archive3=/dev/rfd196ds15 10 1200 n archive4=/dev/rfd096ds9 18 720 n archive5=/dev/rfd196ds9 18 720 n archive6=/dev/rct0 20 0 y archive7=/dev/rctmini 20 0 y archive8=/dev/rmt0 20 0 y archive9=./tarfile 1 0 y E H.
