[comp.unix.xenix] 720k on 360k floppies

ked@garnet.berkeley.edu (Earl H. Kinmonth) (02/09/89)

Several people who have requested pdtar, my XENIX <==> MSDOS version
of GNU tar have expressed surprise that 360 floppies can be used at
720 K. Here is a copy of my modified /etc/default/tar file. The
archive4 entry causes my A (1.2 meg) drive to write at 720 K. To
format use

format /dev/rd096ds9

I've been running 360 floppies at 720 without a single problem for
over a year. Generally this is more cost effective than buying 1.2
meg floppies. pdtar can read these under Messy Dos if you have to
slum.
