The Intel memory cache controller is completely transparent to the operating environment (i.e. MS-DOS/XENIX/OS-2) of the machine. It buys more performance for the MS-DOS user versus the XENIX/UNIX user. This is due to the context switching done by XENIX/UNIX. Each time the kernal does a context switch, the data in the cache is invalid and the cache must be reloaded before becoming effective again. It has been my experience that the cache controller does produce better performance over machines without it regardless of the operating environment.
