[comp.unix.xenix] ld -A

chad@lakesys.UUCP (Chad Gibbons) (03/21/89)

The XENIX programmer's guide lists option -A of ld as:

Creates a stand-alone program whose expected load
address (in hexadecimal) is num. This option sets the
absolute flag in the header of the a.out file. Such
program files can only be executed as standalone
		programs.

I would assume from the terminology that these stand alone programs are
ones that would be used at the boot: prompt upon system startup.
However, I could be wrong. I was able to find more information
pertaining to stand alone programs in any of the other manuals. Does
anyone have a full idea of the extent of stand alone programs? Could
they be used to create programs runable without any XENIX OS support?
